There was much consideration in defining the sentimentalism of coming up with a business name and logo for 13 Jewells Patisserie LLC. There were three different dynamics that inspired me. First being that the number 13 is my first born's birthdate as well as my favorite number. Secondly, Jewell is my mother’s middle name. Lastly, I chose to use the French spelling of Patisserie because it ends in Erie. Erie, Pennsylvania was the place where I spent most of my childhood growing up, as well as it being the final resting place of my mother.

 

It was my mother that inspired me to start baking. As I ponder over the memories of when I was a little girl, I can remember watching my mother in the kitchen cooking and baking and always asking if I could taste what she was making.

 

I have found that baking has afforded me peace, it has been a good form of therapy, along with me being able to produce tasteful desserts. It’s been a blessing that I’ve been able to use my mother’s recipes while feeling her spirit and sense of love while I’m baking. It gives me a sense of satisfaction to know that my desserts are not only unique and palatable, but a part of my mother’s legacy.

 

Lastly, I want to thank my husband who has supported me from day one in pursuing my passion. His words has always been, “Cathy, if your dream doesn’t scare you that means it’s not big enough.”
